About us

The "exchange hut (Tauschhütte)" is a meeting place for everyone and also a place of practice-oriented environmental and social education for children and young people. Together with cooperation partners, the exchange hut Waldstadt citizens’ initiative wants to organize analogue or digital sustainability, neighborhood or climate talks and is happy to invite different actors to them.

In this way, it contributes to the further development of environmental protection measures and has an educational impact on society. The willingness to help others is strengthened. Neighborhood contacts are facilitated and maintained by "exchanging and meeting" on site.

The citizens' initiative was founded in December 2021 after two years of intensive research and discussions with various stakeholders inside and outside the city administration. As a result, the strengths of citizens from different social classes and with different professional experiences were bundled. Together with them, the Waldstadt exchange hut is being worked on as a pilot project that helps many people and brings society together to enable and practice sustainability in the simplest form.

Thanks to the cooperation with the project partners, the exchange hut has found wider acceptance and support and is recognized as an educational site on the subject of sustainability etc.

In June 2022, a second one was opened in Durlach on the basis of our exchange hut. We are currently advising other districts on setting up an exchange hut. Our exchange hut is currently the only one with a solar light system.

When the weather is good, the exchange hut is open on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The hut is intended for the exchange of well-preserved items. This saves resources in the long term.

Have we aroused your interest? On site you can learn even more about what we have achieved so far and what we are planning for the future. We look forward to seeing you there.

To save the environment, we need the support of the population to give sustainability a strong lobby!
